Some Childhood Memories

Back to Molly's home page

So here we are in the new century. January, February, March, are gone it is April and May is almost here.
The new century is going ahead full speed. Slow down and enjoy the present.

Easter was nice weather wise and family wise. After dinner we were all reminiscing. I remember my childhood times on East 40th street the address was 1627. I recall going to the silent movies at National Theater. When sound arrived there was new show, the Lexington. We were really in awe.
These movie theaters were on E. 55th St. which was the end of the street car line - on Payne Ave. Beyond that there were still few farms and open land, but that soon changed with the growing of Cleveland's less affluent territory.

League Park

My mother who was a great baseball fan would take my brother and I to League Park (also on Lexington Ave. )
We rode the streetcar from E40th to E55th St. and transferred to E55st line all for a few pennies. Baseball in those days was simple and great. You could reach out and touch players get autographs etc. How different now. Now it is a big business and really for me not fun to watch any more.

Saying Goodbye

Time to say goodbye! I am selling my house and home of 45 years. But I think back with great love for all the memories and some tears.
When our family would return home from our summer vacation the children would walk in and say "hello house" So now I am leaving I'll say "goodbye dear house! I hope you are loved and taken care of for a long time."

Spring Gardening

Though I am in a different home situation I still feel the urge to clean up and plant for spring and summer. I guess that feeling of giving to the earth never really goes away.
